Google Search Console

Your behind the scenes look at what Google sees.

Internet dwellers and websites can get up to all sorts of mischief, but it’s easy to miss important issues that need to be resolved on your site.

We use Search Console to conduct health checks on our clients’ sites, so that we can detect early problems or events that may prevent Google from crawling or indexing your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set up Google Search Console for my website?

You’ll need to add your website as a ‘Property’ and then verify ownership.

This is usually done by adding a small bit of code (an HTML tag) to your site, uploading a file, or updating your DNS settings through your domain provider.

If that doesn’t make sense, that’s where we come in to get you sorted.

What can Google Search Console help me track?

+
It’s a goldmine of data. You can track:

Search Traffic: How often you appear in results (impressions) and how many people click through.

Queries: The exact words people are typing into Google to find you.

Indexing: Which pages Google has successfully found and stored.

Backlinks: Who else on the web is linking to your site.

Mobile Usability: Whether your site plays nice with smartphones.

How does Google Search Console identify indexing issues?

+
GSC uses the Indexing Report (formerly Coverage) to flag pages that Google tried to visit but couldn’t.

It categorises these into ‘Valid’, ‘Warning’, or ‘Error’. If a page has a “NoIndex” tag by mistake or a 404 error, GSC will send you an alert so you can fix it before it affects your rankings.

What is the difference between Google Search Console and Google Analytics?

+
Google Search Console: Focuses on the “pre-click” experience. It’s about visibility, search rankings, and technical site health.

Google Analytics (GA4): Focuses on the “post-click” experience – what users actually do once they arrive, like how long they stay and what they buy.

At Empire9, we integrate both to get the full picture of your digital performance.

How does Google Search Console integrate with other tools?

+
You can link GSC directly to Google Analytics 4. This allows you to see your Search Console data (like queries) right alongside your user behaviour data in your GA4 reports, making your data analysis much more streamlined.

Is Google Search Console free to use?

+
Yes, it is 100% free. Google provides these tools because they want your website to be as easy to read as possible for their search engine.
